The inept wizard Rincewind is forced into service as guide and protector for Twoflower, a naive insurance clerk from the Counterweight Continent and the Discworld's first ever tourist. Accompanied by the Luggage, a sentient and fiercely loyal chest made of sapient pearwood, they stumble through Ankh-Morpork, the Temple of Bel-Shamharoth, the kingdom of Krull, and ultimately off the edge of the Disc itself. Terry Pratchett's 1983 debut novel introduced the Discworld and established the satirical voice that would sustain forty more novels over three decades.
